Part 1 of 3: Three truths God wants you to know about prayer.

Countless times, I’ve heard people say, “I’m not very good at prayer.”

If you've ever felt unsure about prayer, you're not alone. Many people wonder where to start, but the truth is, there's no right or wrong way to pray. It’s all about a relationship.

As humans, we’re designed for relationships. When we feel isolated and alone, the same parts of the brain light up as when we are injured and in physical pain. Our ability to thrive is directly tied to our connection with others, and at the core of the Christian faith is a beautiful relationship with a loving God. Which leads me to the first truth God wants you to know about prayer:

Truth #1: The Father wants an intimate relationship with you and with me.

In the Old Testament of the Bible, the temple was where God’s presence dwelt, specifically in the inner court, where a veil separated God’s presence from the rest of the temple. Only the High Priest could enter this inner, holy place once a year.

The day Jesus died on the cross, something incredible happened—the curtain that separated God's presence from the world was torn in two (Mark 15:38). This was a significant event. No longer was it just the holiest person who could come into God’s presence. Now, because of Jesus, we all have access to God's presence.

No longer do we have to be an extra holy person or the highest among the group. You are welcome in God’s presence, no matter your doubts or questions. No matter how good or bad you’ve lived this life.

The Father doesn’t want us far from his presence. He wants us close to his heart.

God loves you, and he wants an intimate relationship with you.

Light that unveils love.

Artificial light is excellent for productivity. Clear visibility sets you into action—tackle your inbox, wash the dishes, and walk the dogs. Dragging your feet on a task? Turn on all the lights and find yourself moving towards your goal.

Moreover, natural light has a different effect on us. It encourages us to be more introspective and reflective. It creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for intimate conversations with loved ones or quiet moments of personal contemplation. Enjoying a meal over candlelight with friends, sitting by a fire wrapped in a blanket with your children, or even the warm colors of the late afternoon sun that playfully dances through the trees. In these moments, I am not thinking about to-do lists, goals, or accomplishments. It is something entirely different.

Natural light unveils a side to life we cannot see with our eyes. It illuminates our interior life and connects us with our most authentic selves. This is where we find our creativity, imagination, and sense of wonder. It's a childlike, innocent part of us that deserves our attention and care. Sharing this part of ourselves with others can be incredibly freeing and deepen our love and connection with them.

This is perhaps why prayer is so important. When we pray, we enter into a conversation with Jesus, who is the light of the world. He shines his light into every part of our lives and loves us unconditionally. He knows us better than anyone else and accepts us for who we are, flaws and all. God cares about more than productivity—he wants us to experience the fullness of life and delight in the wonders of the world with him.
